Earlier this year we posted about our friend and up-and-coming designer,
Benjamin Jay. We caught up with him recently for a little Q&A:
Wanderlust: Was it an easy transition from modeling to designing?
Benjamin Jay: I mean I don't really think I've totally gone from one to the other. I think modeling helped build a good foundation for my designing, or maybe it was more of the sand to the concrete mix of the foundation, and the motivation to succeed is the water that makes use of the sand.
WanderLust: How do you differentiate Something Rebellious in such a highly-competitive industry?
Benjamin Jay: Well BENJAMIN JAY is the second season, Something Rebellious was the first season and was a lot of fun, but BENJAMIN JAY is a lot higher end and is definitely taking me to another level.
WanderLust: Is there a designer you look up to and are inspired by?
Benjamin Jay: I hate this question. Because I really dont...
WanderLust: What was your favorite Era for fashion, and would you ever convey that through your designs?
Benjamin Jay: Hmm... Medieval Times. I'm down with the chain mesh tops.
WanderLust: What's your opinion on blogging and how it will affect the future of fashion?
Benjamin Jay: Blogging is the complete way of the future. People key-in to blogs that they think they parallel well with, and when you find that it's like you can live vicariously through the blogger.
WanderLust: How do you see your brand expanding in the future?
Benjamin Jay: As much as possible. Still in my first year of business and the line has already gone international.
xx,
